Miriam and Antonella are the creative souls of La Piazzetta del Sole. The ambience, so cozy and welcoming, expresses the essence of its owners, which have manifested their personalities in a style of their own in managing the location in an open and friendly manner.
Having always a passion for cooking, they started since they were very young to love and learn the art immersing themselves wholly in an exceptional pursuit very difficult to achieve by others. In fact it is the result of long and continuing experience of slowly learning, experimenting, discovering new flavors, and revisiting old traditional recipes, that could only be found in a family style home cooking passed down through generations.
Miriam in fact was born and brought up in a family which ran many restaurants, where the joy of cooking and bringing a smile to the patrons was central and part of their daily lives. One can imagine her managing the tables like a butterfly with the right flair, confidence, and openness, enjoying the satisfaction of her clients, where only a person with years of experience can achieve.
Miriam’s passion and interest for cooking continued even after they sold the family business, when in 1998 with Antonella they took over the management a restaurant in Bolsena called “Rentica” for about 2 years with positive results and after this experience followed other collaborations in several restaurant in the Tuscia. Miriam, besides working in this field, went on to study and becoming Sommelier, making her gastronomic culture richer, accompanying their dishes with delightful suggestions of the appropriate selection of wine for her clients.
The road that has brought Antonella to become the appreciated cook we know, is as unusual as it is noteworthy. Antonella worked as a secretary in Rome when she suddenly decided to abandon everything in order to work with Miriam who shared the same passion. From that moment it started a special synergy that leaded them in 2002 at the decision to open their own restaurant, hence was born La Piazzetta del Sole.
The culinary creations that one can savior can be described as “ traditional, yet revisited.” But the meaning seems to limit the wide variety of tastes and combinations that Antonella proposes continuously with fantasy and creativity. In fact Antonella, who is often in the kitchen and seldom on the floor visiting the tables, expresses herself, by cooking, experimenting and often coming out with wonderful creations even by mistake. One can really get to know Antonella by tasting her wonderful dishes, which are little works of art that delight the palate, as well as one’s sight.
For cooking the two artists at La Piazzetta del Sole carefully select and use seasonal ingredients of which 90% boasts the best fresh products from the local area. Other characteristic of the cooking style is the use of many aromatic local herbs such as wild fennel, wild mint and wild thyme that make the dishes plentiful of heavenly scents and flavors. One can find an example in the handmade tagliatelle pasta with light wild boar sauce mixed with wild fennel and orange peels giving it exquisite and unique flavor.
The elements that Miriam and Antonella decide togheter, are local and produced by the natural life cycle of the seasons that dominate the life of the town and local countryside. One can find for example, the famous olive oil of Canino, local and tasty cheeses selected at important dairy producers, delightful tasty aged and dried meets like salami and prosciutto. The wine list proposes a wide variety of choices of the Tuscia wines, but at the same time others brands of central, northern and southern Italy as well.
The staff of the restaurant is totally female; Miriam and Antonella make use of two very able assistants, Manila which is on the floor working the tables and Alia in the kitchen.
Another interesting characteristic of this grateful corner are the paintings exposed on the walls, that harmonize well with the homely and cozy atmosphere of this place.
These paintings belong to late Alexandra Clark, painter of English origins, which after many years of travel and tours, established her residence in Farnese. Alexandra, fell so much in love with Tuscia and its uncontaminated sceneries that she dedicated her creativity and her skills in order to compose images of the local flora to fauna. Wonderful details, characterized by a liveliness, almost live to the human touch, are the paintings of some typical animals of this land such as sheep, wild boars, horses, geese and some of them you can admire on this site and La Piazzetta del Sole - another reason to come here and visit us in Farnese.
